Brian’s Committee Assignments

Brian serves on seven committees in the Senate, one of which he also chairs:

Insurance.  Brian is Chair of the Senate Insurance  & Telecommunications Committee. This committee has jurisdiction over all legislation before the Senate relating to any insurance issue. Recent issues include the affiliation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware with Highmark Blue Shield of Pennsylvania, bills to bring Delaware law in line with provisions of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, bills addressing the changing context for surplus lines insurance, and many others.

Joint Finance Committee. The JFC, a joint committee between the Senate and House, develops the annual operating budget for Delaware as well as the annual Grant-In-Aid bill.  As such, the JFC is the committee of the General Assembly most responsible for assuring the prudent and wise use of taxpayer dollars, for continuing Delaware’s reputation for fiscal responsibility and for upholding Delaware’s AAA bond rating, putting Delaware in a leadership position among all the states.

Brian also serves on the Bond Committee, Adult and Juvenile Corrections Committee, Community/County Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, the Highways and Transportation Committee and the Public Safety Committee.

In addition to his regular committee assignments, Brian also represents the entire State on the Council on Developmental Finance.  The CDF reviews and acts on proposals for use of funds from the Strategic Fund, Delaware’s primary source of funding for job creation through loans and grants to new and expanding businesses.
